What is endoscopy?
This is a catch – all name for all techniques that involve inspection of the interior of human body using flexible camera.
This allows detection of a wide range of diseases of various organs.
What are the endoscopies used to investigate digestive diseases?
Gastroscopy and colonoscopy are the two techniques that I perform. Both are extremely safe and can be done without anaethetic although often sedation will be used to ensure your comfort.
When should I have a Gastroscopy?
Do you have any of these?
- Reflux
- Indigestion especially if you are over 55
- Weight loss
- Belly ache and pain
- Anemia
- Suspected ulcer and cancer
These are the common reasons to advise a gastroscopy.
When do I need a colonoscopy?

- Bleeding from backpassage
- Liquid discharge from the back passage
- Pain in the back passage (anus)
- Diarrhoea and loose stools
- Erratic bowels
- Anaemia
- Weight loss
These symptoms occur for many reasons and you must not conclude anything at all. However, it is advisable to consult a doctor.
